He hears your boos. He just doesn't care.
He knows people love to hate him. He still doesn't care.
He knows 1 judge clearly was busy playing Candy Crush on her phone instead of watching the fight. He does not care.
Floyd "Money" Mayweather is the best boxer in the world. He may have cleared over $100 million last night for 1 fight and he doesn't care what anyone thinks because frankly? He doesn't have to.
Mayweather put on a clinic last night, simply dominating 23 year old Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in front of an MGM Grand Garden Arena crowd that heavily favored the young Mexican champion. Leading up to the fight, many wondered if Money would be able to handle the size, power and youth of Canelo and as he tends to do, Mayweather wasted no time proving doubters wrong. Size and power make no difference when you can't land a punch to save your life and Floyd made Alvarez miss...over and over again.
As always following a Mayweather fight, you'll hear the usual complaints from the casual boxing fans. "It was boring" seems to be the popular one but I'd like to counter it with this: What's boring about watching the best fighter, possibly of all time, do exactly what he wants to do in the ring?
Do you get bored watching Peyton Manning throw 7 touchdowns? Were you bored watching MJ win 6 NBA titles? Was it boring watching Calvin Johnson set the single season receiving yards record? So why is it boring to watch Mayweather dominate an opponent who was supposed to be able to challenge him?
Not to slight the young fighter who had to carry to hopes of a nation on his back, Canelo had flashes of a game plan in the fight early on. Trying to get Mayweather up against the ropes to unleash on him with a barrage of power punches to the body thereby opening up the head is a solid strategy...if you can execute it. The problem for Alvarez that must have driven him nuts was that every time he THOUGHT he had Mayweather locked down, Mayweather would simply dance off the ropes, smile and land 3 straight rights to the face.
There is something to be said for the public disdain for Money Mayweather. You'll hear everything from he's a scumbag to he's cocky and those are the nice words that I'm comfortable typing up in this article. But do you know what else Money is on top of everything anyone can say about him? As the hat he donned following the (still so absurd it makes my head wanna explode) majority decision last night said, he's "TBE".
Floyd "Money" Mayweather is the best ever. Argue it all you want, he still doesn't care what you think about it and frankly? He doesn't have to.
