Just a day after CBS Sports reported that trade talks between the Pistons and Celtics had stalled in Detroit's attempt to acquire Rajon Rondo from Boston, another high profile point guard has been linked to the Pistons.
Piston Powered posted a piece saying there may be talks for the Pistons to acquire PG Brandon Jennings from the Bucks in a sign and trade deal. Jennings is 2 years older than the Pistons current projected starter at PG, Brandon Knight. However, Jennings is also the more skilled playmaker and passer plus he has shown flashes of brilliance during his career averaging 17 points, 5.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game.
The downside to Jennings? Roughly the same as that of Rajon Rondo, without the injury. Jennings has shown in the past that he is all about him and what's best for him, not the team. He was late to his own NBA Draft party, called out his own coach and skipped college to play in Europe until he was draft eligible. The other big negative is that Jennings is looking to get paid on a level he has yet to attain.
All that this really does is continue to confuse some as to what Joe Dumars is trying to accomplish with this young Pistons squad. Are they expected to contend in the East next season or is this a team building towards the future? Only one man holds the answer and it looks like Joe D is keeping this one to himself.
