Another former Tigers player is to become the third interviewee to take over for the outgoing Jim Leyland.
Brad Ausmus, former Tigers catcher and current San Diego Padres executive, will be interviewed for the position, says CBS Sports' Jon Heyman. Ausmus has yet to manage in the majors, but has 18 years experience as a player.
And there is a fourth interviewee lined up, according to Heyman.
Rick Renteria, current Padres bench coach, will also be interviewed, says Heyman.
As for other candidates mentioned over the past week, Ozzie Guillen's name is being tossed about a lot by both fans and writers, but so far it appears to be just talk.
Ozzie Guillen's reps won't confirm any dialogue with #Tigers, but did tell me he does want to manage again -- and has interest in Detroit.— Tony Paul (@TonyPaul1984) October 27, 2013
Asked Miguel Cabrera if it would help for Tigers’ next manager to be bilingual. He smiled and said, “Yeah. We could speak Spanish.”— Jon Morosi (@jonmorosi) October 28, 2013
